A newly married military officer was shot dead by his colleague in Borno state following a misunderstanding.   Lieutenant Babakaka Shehu Ngorgi of the 202 Battalion, who got married in December 2019, was talking to his wife Hauwa Alhaji Kolomi when one of his colleagues shot him from the back six times in Bama, Borno.   After shooting him, the attacker was reportedly heard screaming, "I have achieved my aim." It is not yet clear why the soldier killed Lt Ngorgi, who is his senior in the army and on the battlefield.    Friends have gone on various social media platforms to mourn Ngorgi.  

A wing tip accident was witnessed at the cargo area of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos on Wednesday July 29.    The accident occurred when a Middle East Airlines plane was coming to park on the apron while a Turkish Airlines aircraft was taxiing out.   Passengers on the Turkish Airlines flight were made to disembark and it was further learnt that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) have been notified and would issue a statement on the incident.

The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has slammed the Nigerian Army stationed in Baga, a town in Kukawa local government of the state, after suspected Boko Haram members attacked his convoy on Wednesday, July 29.   Governor Zulum had departed Maiduguri, the state capital on Monday afternoon July 27, for the northern part of the state in continuation of the food distribution programme which he started earlier in the month. Khafi Kareem and her family members were inconsolable as they laid to rest the youngest member of the family, Alexander Kareem.   Alexander was shot dead in the street in Askew Road, Shepherd's Bush, west London, on June 8.   Police said Mr Kareem, 20, was killed as he left a convenience store in a case of mistaken identity shortly after 12.30am. At the funeral, the family of Alexander Kareem, begged the public not to view his death as "just another black boy who's been shot."   In a heartfelt eulogy to her brother, Khafi Kareem, 30, said she and her brothers "would have taken the bullet for him" Speaking after his funeral, Khafi said: "To anybody who's seen this (in the news) and is thinking this is just another black boy who's been shot by violence, I want to tell you that is not the case.   "Alex's life mattered, he had a future ahead of him, he's not just another black boy. He had a family, he had friends, this is real." A couple is suing after they were attacked by a lion who crept into their tent while they were on a luxury safari.   Patrick Fourgeaud and his wife Brigitte Fourgeaud, 63, were camping in the Ruaha National Park, in Tanzania, when a lion crept in and ripped part of Patrick Fourgeaud's left arm off.   The couple is now suing the British company that organised their holiday.   The victim's wife, Brigitte Fourgeaud, 63, said: "I will never forget that moment when I woke up to see the lion there.   "I thought we were both going to die. A 37-year-old woman, Torkwase Queen Ayakpa, who was arrested by men of the FCT police command for staging her own kidnap, says she did it to find out if her sister loves her.   Ayakpa was one of 24 suspects paraded by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command for various offenses on Wednesday, July 29.   Ayakpa, who is a hairstylist, conspired with one Fidelis Ikule, 36, to stage her kidnap. She told the police that she also did it to extort N20, 000 from her sister because her hairstyling business was no longer doing well due to the coronavirus pandemic.   Ayakpa, a native of Benue state and Fidelis, were arrested after the police traced the calls they were making for the ransom to Fidelis's house in Mashafa Village, Mpape, Abuja, where they were holing up.

Mr. Nicholas Ofodile, a Kogi-based businessman, who was found dead in his car last month along Abuja-Lokoja highway (read here), was murdered by assassins hired by an aggrieved associate.    The identity of Ofodile's alleged killer was disclosed by the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ede Ayuba, while parading the leader of the gang, one Vincent Omogor, and  27 others at the command’s headquarters in Lokoja yesterday, July 29.   Ayuba disclosed that the suspect was arrested by Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) operatives in collaboration with vigilantes in the state. He was arrested in Orehi, Kogi Local Government Area of the State. Speaking with newsmen, the suspect said he was commissioned by someone, who he referred to as "chairman", to assassinate the businessman. He said "chairman" was aggrieved by the failure of the deceased to fulfill certain financial obligations to him when his father took ill.   He explained that "chairman" became angry

Zambia's Education Minister, David Mabumba has been fired after allegedly appearing in a viral sex video.    Though President Edgar Lungu's spokesperson, Isaac Chipampe did not disclose the reason for Mabumba's dismissal, it however came after the sex tape of a man that looks like him went viral. The man was spotted in live WhatsApp video with a woman, naked and masturbating.   A  statement from the President Lungu's spokesman Isaac Chipampe partly read;  "I have relieved Minister of General Education Hon David Mabumba of his duty with immediate effect. I have thanked him for the services he rendered to Government and wished him well in his future endeavours." It added that Dr Dennis Wanchinga who is the minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection will move to the Ministry of General Education in the same capacity.

A former prosecutor who worked with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Chief Godwin Obla (SAN), has revealed that the suspended acting Chairman of the anti-graft agency, Ibrahim Magu, ordered his arrest after he asked to be paid a sum of N763.9m in legal fees.   Chief Obla reportedly made the revelation while reading out an 18-page letter to the Justice Ayo Salami-led Presidential panel investigating Magu. According to Obla, Magu threatened to make bribery allegations against him when he demanded for his payment.   In the 18 page letter titled, ‘Presentation In Respect of Malicious and Reckless Abuse of State Power of Investigation and Prosecution Resulting in Mismanagement of Forfeited Assets by Deliberate and Contrived Incompetence and Suspicious Dealing of Forfeited Assets.’, Obla said he helped the commission recover hundreds of billions of naira in cash and assets and prosecuted about 40 cases for the EFCC including bank chiefs that were sacked.
