Two airplanes collide at Lagos airport

A wing tip accident was witnessed at the cargo area of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos on Wednesday July 29. 

 

The accident occurred when a Middle East Airlines plane was coming to park on the apron while a Turkish Airlines aircraft was taxiing out.

 

Passengers on the Turkish Airlines flight were made to disembark and it was further learnt that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) have been notified and would issue a statement on the incident.

Lebanon blast was caused by welder as death toll passes 100

It has been claimed that the huge explosion in Beirut, Lebanon, that killed over 100 people and injured more than 4,000, was caused by a welder at work.   Close to where the welder was working, there was "highly explosive sodium nitrate" confiscated from a ship by Lebanese authorities and placed in one of the warehouses located near the harbour. The ammonium nitrate - more than 2,750 tons - had been stored in the warehouse for six years.   Security sources in the country have claimed the welder sparked an initial fire that in turn ignited the chemicals, causing a blast that has been compared to a "nuclear bomb."     The blast sent seismic shockwaves through the city on Tuesday evening, August 4, destroying buildings and shattering windows.   Over 100 people died in the blast and more than 4,000 sustained varying degrees of injuries.     Many people are feared to still be trapped under the...

Adekunle Gold finally reacted after his wife Simi was called out for the timing of her apology to the LGBTQ community.   Simi apologized to the LGBTQ community for a homophobic comment she made months ago that homosexuality is "not natural."   Her comments angered the LGBTQ community, but she didn't address them.   She finally addressed the issue on August 4 by issuing an apology, but it coincided with the time her husband Adekunle Gold took to Instagram to promote his feature in a magazine that promotes LGBTQ creativity.   At first, Nigerians accepted her apology and said it was sincere. Former Broadway actress, Royana Black dies at 47 after battling Leukemia

Hollywood actress, Royana Black, who starred in Broadway's Brighton Beach Memoirs, has died. She was aged 47.   Black died in Los Angeles on July 14 following a battle with Leukemia, her family have revealed in her obituary announced Tuesday, July 28.   According to a GoFundMe campaign set up for her memorial, Black had acute myeloid leukemia, and her death came "very suddenly".  "Royana's incredible energy and spirit will be a part of our lives forever, and her friends and family want to remember her and assist her husband, JP, at this most difficult time," the statement on the GoFundme page read. UNIBEN LECTURER DEAD AFTER BEEN HIT BY A COMMERCIAL BUS CHASED BY POLICE MEN

A lecturer at the University of Benin in Edo State, Dr Stella Okotie, was on Monday night crushed to death at the university’s main gate. It was gathered that the accident happened when policemen attached to Ugbowo Division were pursuing a commercial bus in a bid to extort some money from the driver. This led to a physical struggle between the driver and the policemen for the wheels. While struggling, the bus driver ran into Dr Okotie, who was standing by the main gate The deceased, who was a lecturer at the Faculty of Education, was standing with her husband, Dr Williams Okotie, also a staff of the institution and their son, Ochuko, when the incident happened. Egypt court sentences five young women to prison for posting "indecent" dance videos on TikTok

An Egyptian court has sentenced five young women to two years in prison for posting "indecent" dance videos on TikTok.     The prosecution statement named two of the defendants 20-year-old student Haneen Hossam and 22-year-old Mawada Eladhm and said the other three helped run their social media accounts.   The women were also fined 300,000 Egyptian pounds (A$26,000) each for "violating the values and principles of the Egyptian family," inciting debauchery and promoting human trafficking, according to a statement from the public prosecutor.   Haneen Hossam and Mawada Eladhm rose to fame though TikTok, amassing millions of followers for their video snippets which include sharing of footage of themselves wearing makeup, posing in cars, dancing in kitchens and making funny skits.   However, their social media stardom became their undoing in a country, where citizens can land in prison for vague crimes such as “misusing social media,” “disseminati...
