JUST IN!!! Panel Clears Adesina Of All Allegations

An independent panel of experts, headed by former Irish President Mary Robinson, has cleared Akinwumi Adesina, leader of the African Bank of Development, of corruption allegations.

The 60-year-old who became the first Nigerian to lead the AfDB in 2015, was alleged to run the back into the grounds.

A 15-page report earlier this year claimed that under his watch the bank had been tarred by poor governance, impunity, personal enrichment and favouritism.

The panel of three experts, led by Robinson alongside Gambia’s Chief Justice Hassan Jallow and the World Bank’s integrity vice president Leonard McCarthy, cleared Adesina of all charges alleged by whistleblowers.


“The Panel concurs with the Committee in its findings in respect of all the allegations against the President and finds that they were properly considered and dismissed by the Committee,”

Monday’s report concluded.

The African banking institution and Adesina, who is the sole candidate for the bank’s August’s presidential elections, had been in the eye of the storm since April over allegations of impropriety levelled against him by some whistleblowers working in the bank.

The former Nigerian agriculture minister had always stated he was “innocent” of the charges.

Robinson, who led Ireland from 1990 to 1997 before serving as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights until 2002, dismissed the 16 whistleblower allegations against Adesina.

Meanwhile, the bank’s Ethics’ Committee, which first investigated the allegations, gave him a clean bill that was accepted by the Board of Governors, but the United States rejected the report and demanded a fresh probe by an independent body.

The board subsequently authorised an independent review of the Ethics Committee report on Adesina, who has received the backing of Nigeria and other African countries ahead of his reelection next month.

Two airplanes collide at Lagos airport

A wing tip accident was witnessed at the cargo area of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos on Wednesday July 29.    The accident occurred when a Middle East Airlines plane was coming to park on the apron while a Turkish Airlines aircraft was taxiing out.   Passengers on the Turkish Airlines flight were made to disembark and it was further learnt that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) have been notified and would issue a statement on the incident.

Woman 'forced to perform sex act on dog in exchange for drugs as laughing men watched'

  A woman was filmed sexually abusing a black dog as two men pinned the animal down.   The woman, Sarah Joanne Meredith, 41, claims she was forced to perform a sex act on the dog in exchange for drugs.   In the footage, the laughing men told her to “keep going”, the Liverpool Echo reports.   Describing the video, Ayra Ali, prosecuting, told Wirral Magistrates Court in Merseyside: “A black medium-sized dog is being held by an adult male with the dog's back against his stomach.'   The dog kicked out as another male held its front legs, the court heard.   Ali said Meredith then performed a sex act on the animal, adding: "The defendant stated she was forced to do this, however, the footage shows otherwise."   Sinead Fearon, defending, said: "The defendant is described as a vulnerable female, that's clearly what she is.   "She was promised she would get drugs if she did what the males said."   Sarah Joanne Meredith leaves court with her hood over ...

BREAKING: GOVERNOR WIKE RESCUES JOI NUNIEH FROM HOUSE ARREST

The Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has rescued the former acting managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Ms. Joi Nunieh from her house after armed policemen laid siege to her house.   Wike arrived Nunieh’s residence off Herbert Marculay Street, Amada-Flat at about 10:30 this morning following reports that she had been prevented from leaving her house by  a team of policemen allegedly on the order of   the Inspection General of Police   Nunieh was scheduled to appear before the House of Representatives ad hoc committee set up to probe malfeasance in the commission. A visibly angry Wike questioned the policemen on who authorised the siege and when they claimed it was from the IGP, he beckoned on Ms Nunieh to come out from her house.
