President Buhari won’t resign over NDDC,NSITF, EFCC probes – FG

The Federal Government has said President Buhari will not resign from office over alleged cases of corruption in Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund(NSITF), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

 

The Peoples Democratic Party of Nigeria chairman, Uche Secondus, last week, called on President Buhari to resign over the numerous corruption cases in many of the government agencies as well as the high level of insecurity in many parts of the country.  Secondus said the ongoing corruption investigations of the NDDC, MIC, NEDC, NSITF, EFCC, and other government agencies, are pointers to the fact that the country under President Buhari’s watch, is on ventilator gasping for breath. Speaking at a press conference in Abuja today Tuesday, July 28, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said the call for President Buhari's resignation was ''infantile''.

 

Dismissing claims that the anti-corruption war of the Buhari administration was waning, Lai Mohammed dared anyone with a contrary opinion to try the government and see what will happen. 


“You are all aware, Nigerians have recently been inundated with allegations of monumental corruption in a number of government agencies, including the NDDC, NSITF, and the anti-corruption agency, EFCC. Many, especially naysayers, have misinterpreted these developments as a sign that the Administration’s fight against corruption is waning.

 

In fact, the main opposition PDP has latched on to the developments to call for the resignation of Mr. President, a call that is nothing but infantile!

 

Let me state here and now that the fight against corruption, a cardinal programme of this Administration, is alive and well. President Muhammadu Buhari, the African Union’s Anti-Corruption Champion, who also has an impeccable reputation globally, remains the driver of the fight and no one, not the least the PDP under whose watch Nigeria was looted dry, can taint his image or reverse the gains of the fight.

 

Anyone who disagrees that the anti-corruption fight is alive and well is free to dare us.” he said

Police arrest men for violating COVID-19 curfew, then lock him up in a crowded cell

Taking to social media, some Nigerian man in Lagos state, lamented about their experience at the police cell. According to them, they were arrested for flouting the 10pm curfew put in place by the Federal government to curb the spread of  COVID-19  in the state. According to the men, there was heavy traffic in Lagos on Wednesday, so they couldn’t beat the curfew hour. The police officers enforcing the traffic in Ikeja arrested them and threw them in a crowded cell where none of the COVID-19 protocols such as social distancing was observed. Twitter user, Osinaike Joseph, who shared videos from the cell, alleged that the police officers refused to release some of them who were visibly sick. They accused the police of demanding bribe from them before their release. Iya Oshogbo officially retires from acting as she turns 90

  Veteran Yoruba actress Grace Oyin-Adejobi, popularly known as Iya Osogbo, will officially retire from acting when she clocks 90 on Sunday, August 23. Iya Osogbo is the widow of the late Yoruba actor Oyin Adejobi who died in 2000. During an appearance on a radio magazine programme on Space 90.1FM, Parrot Extra Hour on Radio, anchored by Olayinka Agboola in Ibadan, Oyo State, Iya Osogbo said she started her acting career some 67 years ago. She noted that she had already made her name before she acted in the movie  Eran Iya Osogbo  contrary to beliefs. Court orders arrest of former NASS Clerk, Sani Omolori

A federal high court in Abuja has issued a warrant for the arrest of the immediate past Clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Omolori.   This is coming after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed an application before the court, alleging that the respondent had ignored its invitation for him to report to its office following a petition filed against him.    The anti-graft agency which said it is investigating the diversion of 14 Toyota Hilux vehicles and 13 Peugeot 508 valued at over N400 million, disclosed that it has invited the Secretary of the National Assembly Commission, Adamu Fika, Mr Oluseye Ajakaye and others to its office.   The EFCC noted that the invitees made revelations indicting Mr Omolori who refused to honor its invitation on two occassions.    Justice Suleman Belgore who listened to EFCC's counsel S.N. Nigerian students are now beggars in the UK- Abike Dabiri-Erewa asks NDDC to pay Nigerian students their scholarship allowances and fees

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission NIDCOM, has appealed to the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC to pay the allowances, tuition, and other incentives of students on its scholarship scheme in the United Kingdom as most of them have turned to beggars on the streets of the UK.   During the recent National Assembly probe of the NDDC, it was revealed that Nigerian students awarded scholarships to some universities in the United Kingdom, have been abandoned by the commission as they have not received a dime in allowance or school fees from the commission.
