"It’s a shameful thing" LGBTQ Rights advocate Pamela Adie condemns celebrities who apologize for their homophobic behaviors for their benefits

Pamela Adie has criticized Simi and other celebrities who apologize for their homophobic behavior or comments for selfish reasons.

 

The LGBTQ Rights advocate said it is shameful. She added that members of the LGBTQ community are not toys that celebrities can use to benefit from projects that are good for their image.

 

She wrote: "There seems to be a trend of people “apologizing” for homophobic behavior/comments just in time to benefit from participating in things or projects that are good for their image. It’s a shameful thing. So, I understand how some may see Simi's apology as one of these tactics.

 

"The truth is that we’re sick of homophobes using proximity to the community to further their careers and relevance. We’re not toys. Our feelings are real and our lives matter. It needs to stop. I respect organizations that listen and take action; like Quazar."

Magu Probe: Olukoyede, EFCC Secretary, Suspended

Some officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have received letters of suspension, TheCable understands. Although details of those suspended are yet to be made public,  TheCable  learnt that Olanipekun Olukoyede, secretary to the commission, is among those who received the letters. The development is not unconnected to the ongoing probe of Ibrahim Magu, suspended acting chairman of the EFCC. Magu was arrested on July 6 and whisked to the presidential villa in Abuja, where he appeared before a panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the operations of the EFCC under him. The panel is headed by Ayo Salami, retired president of the appeal court. On July 14, Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), sent a letter to Mohammed Umar, acting EFCC chairman, notifying him of the suspension of 12 directors in the commission. Demitra “Mimi” Roche, who appeared on the Oxygen reality show “Bad Girls Club,” has passed away at the age of 34. NDDC Spent N4.2b In One Day, Akpabio Tells Reps

Contract splitting is rampant in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Niger Delta Affairs Minister Godswill Akpabio, said on Monday. According to him, the management of the agency indulges in splitting contracts to outwit the minister and evade approval. Speaking before the House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta in Abuja, the minister alleged that the agency spent “over N4.2 billion in a day in tranches of N49 million.” The committee is probing how N40 billion was spent by the Interim Management Committee (IMC). Akpabio was invited with the Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Prof. Kemebradikumo Pondei. Pondei fainted during the proceedings and had to be revived and taken to the hospital.
