Kano singer sentenced to death for blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad

A Nigerian singer identified as Yahaya Sharif-Aminu has been sentenced to death by hanging by a Sharia court in Kano for blaspheming against the Prophet Muhammad.

According to reports, Yahaya Sharif was a die-hard follower of the Tijjaniyya sect, a Muslim sect. 

Presiding Judge Muhammad Aliyu Kani gave the judgment on Monday after finding the person guilty of the offences. 
The Prosecutor Inspector Yargoje said in a First Information Report, (FIR)  Sharif was charged in court for insulting religious creed contrary to section 382 (6) of Kano State Shariah Penal Code Law 2000. 

“That you, Sharrif Yahaya, resident of Sharif quarters, Kano on 28/02/2020 between the hours of 20:00hrs to 23:00hrs with the intention to hurt the feelings of Muslim faithful made a post via WhatsApp group named “Gidan Umma Abiha” some abusive and degrading audio statements in which you called Prophet Muhammad PBUH a theist (Mushrik) who propagate Shrik and whose position is lower than that of INYASS in the hereafter.”

 The convicts all pleaded guilty to the offences. 

Recall that the development involving Sharif didn’t go down well with some angry youths who stormed his residence to set ablaze and demolish the house and proceeded to stage a peaceful protest to the Kano Hisbah Corps (Shariah Police) to press home their demand for his prosecution.

 Meanwhile, it was gathered that the convicts have a grace of 30 days to appeal the judgment.

Truck that carried the container that crushed FAAN workers to death in Lagos had no road worthiness – VIS official tells court

  The trial of the owner and driver of the truck carrying an unlatched container that fell and crushed two workers of the Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria FAAN, Chidinma Ajoku, and her colleague, Chima Nnaekpe, and one other person, commenced at the Lagos State High Court on Thursday, August 20.   Chidinma and Chima boarded a commercial bus back home after the close of work on July 26. An Egyptian court has sentenced five young women to two years in prison for posting "indecent" dance videos on TikTok.     The prosecution statement named two of the defendants 20-year-old student Haneen Hossam and 22-year-old Mawada Eladhm and said the other three helped run their social media accounts.   The women were also fined 300,000 Egyptian pounds (A$26,000) each for "violating the values and principles of the Egyptian family," inciting debauchery and promoting human trafficking, according to a statement from the public prosecutor.   Haneen Hossam and Mawada Eladhm rose to fame though TikTok, amassing millions of followers for their video snippets which include sharing of footage of themselves wearing makeup, posing in cars, dancing in kitchens and making funny skits.   However, their social media stardom became their undoing in a country, where citizens can land in prison for vague crimes such as “misusing social media,” “disseminati...
