TOKE MAKINWA EXPRESSES HER OPINION ON MARRIAGE

Toke Makinwa, a Nigerian radio personality, television host, vlogger, lifestyle entrepreneur and author, is of the opinion that marriages should not be allowed to last long, especially when the couples involved are fed up of each other. She made this assertion on Twitter.

In a series of tweets in which the beautiful but controversial social media celebrity wondered why marriages are allowed to last longer than necessary, Toke wrote “I think marriages should have an expiry and subject to renewal clause after a certain number of years, like the way we renew agreements. People should be allowed to look back on time out in, grade themselves and hit the renewal button if they can still stand each other”.

Mother drowns after jumping into sea to save her son and his friend

A mother drowned in front of her son and his friend after she jumped into the sea to save them.   The woman, who is in her 30s and has been named locally as Danni, went to the boys' rescue when they got into difficulty in a kayak yesterday, August 9.   The body of the woman was later pulled lifeless from the water after being caught out by the strong current at Waxham beach in the Norfolk United Kingdom.   Horrified onlookers tried in vain to resuscitate her before paramedics took over, but she was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.   The sad incident happened at about 5.30pm on Sunday, while the beach was packed with people.   The beach and nearby Sea Palling are notorious for having dangerous riptides which can sweep away unsuspecting swimmers.   Emergency services including Coastguard teams, ambulances, local paramedics and a rescue helicopter were sent to the scene after HM Coastguard received "multiple calls" about several people in ...

Yakubu Dogara, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC. Dogara’s defection was disclosed to Channels Television by the acting Chairman of APC, Mai Mala Buni. Buni and Dogara were said to have met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa. Dogara, according to the report, will address the public later. The former Speaker who was an APC member had defected to the PDP during the last general elections.

   Oluwayemisi Mafe, a victim of spousal abuse, has detailed how her wedding day turned out to be a sad day for her as it heralded years of abuse that left her feeling so alone and led to her mother’s death.   The marketing communications consultant said she married her husband after two years of courtship, so she thought she knew him well. A hardhat died and at least three other people were hurt in a chain-reaction accident Thursday at a Manhattan building undergoing facade repair work, authorities said. Disaster struck at about 4:20 p.m. as a section of parapet fell from a 12-story condo building on E. 36th St. near Lexington Ave. in Murray Hill, said officials. 7 members of a family die of food poisoning in Zamfara, husband runs mad

  A food poisoning incident at  Auki village of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State has left 7 members of the same family, consisting of five children and two housewives, dead.    It was further learnt that the husband of the late woman, Mallam Hassan lawali also developed a psychiatric disorder after eating food prepared with corn on Tuesday night.    An eyewitness told Nigerian Tribune; “After they ate the food, they started to develop stomach pains, three died instantly while four people were taken to General Hospital, Bungudu where they were also pronounced dead”. While the Doctor on duty confirmed that the members of the family died of food poisoning, it was also gathered that Mallam Hassan could neither speak nor eat.

Egypt court sentences five young women to prison for posting "indecent" dance videos on TikTok

An Egyptian court has sentenced five young women to two years in prison for posting "indecent" dance videos on TikTok.     The prosecution statement named two of the defendants 20-year-old student Haneen Hossam and 22-year-old Mawada Eladhm and said the other three helped run their social media accounts.   The women were also fined 300,000 Egyptian pounds (A$26,000) each for "violating the values and principles of the Egyptian family," inciting debauchery and promoting human trafficking, according to a statement from the public prosecutor.   Haneen Hossam and Mawada Eladhm rose to fame though TikTok, amassing millions of followers for their video snippets which include sharing of footage of themselves wearing makeup, posing in cars, dancing in kitchens and making funny skits.   However, their social media stardom became their undoing in a country, where citizens can land in prison for vague crimes such as “misusing social media,” “disseminati...
