Senator James Manager denies getting contracts from NDDC; threatens legal action

Senator James Manager representing Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has denied claims he benefitted from NDDC contracts during and after his time as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs.

 

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, had in a letter addressed to Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, which was leaked to newsmen by a youth group in Abuja on Sunday, July 26, named Manager as one of the lawmakers who got six NDDC contracts. The Executive Director Projects of the agency, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, had accused the Senator of getting contracts from the Commission.

 

However, in a statement released today July 27, Manager denied the claim and has threatened to take legal action.

 

His statement below...


“I sincerely wish to react as follows: That my tenure as chairman of Niger Delta Committee in the Senate effectively ended in 2015.

That ever since then I have never visited NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt or any of its branches.

That NDDC never awarded any contract to any company owned by me. That I do not know of any company owned by me, that has ever gone into bidding for government jobs anywhere in the world. (This may come to many as a surprise but that is the gospel truth).”

'Those who are alleging to defame me must be aware of the consequences.

That in the interest of the gullible innocent public, the authors led by the said Dr. Cairo Ojougboh or any other person should provide among other things the following please;

(A) detailed description of the said jobs. (B) names of companies (C) payments already made and to whom? (D) job performance (E) The Directors as they appear in the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

That I sincerely in the name God request for proof of evidence. This is a very simple minimum demand.”

Police arrest men for violating COVID-19 curfew, then lock him up in a crowded cell

Taking to social media, some Nigerian man in Lagos state, lamented about their experience at the police cell. According to them, they were arrested for flouting the 10pm curfew put in place by the Federal government to curb the spread of  COVID-19  in the state. According to the men, there was heavy traffic in Lagos on Wednesday, so they couldn’t beat the curfew hour. The police officers enforcing the traffic in Ikeja arrested them and threw them in a crowded cell where none of the COVID-19 protocols such as social distancing was observed. Twitter user, Osinaike Joseph, who shared videos from the cell, alleged that the police officers refused to release some of them who were visibly sick. They accused the police of demanding bribe from them before their release. 25-year-old mom and her twin sons found dead inside car

A Georgia mother and her twin sons were found dead inside a car submerged in a pond.   25-year-old ShaQuia Philpot and her 10-month-old sons, Caysen and Cassius Williams, were found after a fisherman spotted the vehicle at Mayor’s Pond in Augusta on Friday afternoon, July 24. Relatives told authorities that the family lived in Hephzibah but investigators did not disclose how the vehicle ended up in the pond in Augusta.   Their autopsies will be conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to determine an official cause of death. Philpot’s mother, Myrtis Wright Bennett, confirmed their deaths in a Facebook post that reads: “The Lord only loan my daughter ShaQuia Philpot to me for 25 years my twins grandson Cassius and Caysen William for 10 months. “Lord, I didn’t know that you were going to call them home on July 24, 2020. Over 4,000 couples who have applied to be wedded at the Ikoyi Marriage Registry in Lagos State will have to wait for some time to put a legal seal on their union.

The PUNCH learnt that the Ministry of Interior, which runs the marriage registry, had ordered the suspension of weddings since March because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However,  findings by our correspondent showed that those who could wait were being given the option of “change of venue” at an extra cost of between N30,000 and N50,000. According to an applicant, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, the “change of venue” option entails that the couple will name a place of their choice where the registry officials will come to conduct the wedding. The applicant said he had applied to be wedded at the registry since early June and after paying the official N33,000 and filling all the required forms, he got an email informing him that his oath taking would be on June 14, while the wedding would be June 15. Trailer Loses Control, Crushes A Bus Along Apapa-Oshodi Expressway (Graphic Pics

At least two people were said to have lost their lives earlier this evening, along the Apapa-Oshodi expressway (directly under the pedestrian bridge in Ilasamaja, Mushin, Lagos State), when a driver lost control of his trailer as it fell and crushed a parked danfo (almost filled with passengers) beside it. Passers by were quick to help evacuate the injured n unconscious passengers from the crushed bus but as at the time of delivery long this report, two of the passengers lay mangled n stone dead on the road. Eye witnesses said the trailer driver took his heels on realizing what happened. Surprisingly, two of the passengers were said to have been rescued unhurt.
