Update: Police arrest seven people including a 34-year-old woman in connection with the murder of BBNaija star, Khafi's brother

Seven people have been arrested in connection with the murder of BBNaija star, Khafi's brother. 

 

Alexander Kareem, 20, was shot close to his family house in Shepherd’s Bush, West London on June 8. He was walking back home from a convenience store when he was shot in a case of mistaken identity. 

 

After the shooting, a white Range Rover, which had been seen speeding away from the crime scene, was later found burnt out.

 

A post-mortem conducted on him showed he died from gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen.

 

Five men, aged 18 to 24, a boy, 16, and a woman, 34, were arrested earlier today and are in custody.

 

Detective chief inspector Wayne Jolley, who is leading the investigation for the Met's Specialist Crime Team, said the arrests were a "significant development."

 

"I believe this murder to have been a case of mistaken identity, perpetrated recklessly and with no regard whatsoever for human life.

 

"We will continue to work hard to make sure those responsible are brought to justice."

 

Alexander Kareem was laid to rest on Wednesday, July 29, at the Margravine Cemetery in Hammersmith.

Magu Probe: Olukoyede, EFCC Secretary, Suspended

Some officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have received letters of suspension, TheCable understands. Although details of those suspended are yet to be made public,  TheCable  learnt that Olanipekun Olukoyede, secretary to the commission, is among those who received the letters. The development is not unconnected to the ongoing probe of Ibrahim Magu, suspended acting chairman of the EFCC. Magu was arrested on July 6 and whisked to the presidential villa in Abuja, where he appeared before a panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the operations of the EFCC under him. The panel is headed by Ayo Salami, retired president of the appeal court. On July 14, Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), sent a letter to Mohammed Umar, acting EFCC chairman, notifying him of the suspension of 12 directors in the commission. Demitra “Mimi” Roche, who appeared on the Oxygen reality show “Bad Girls Club,” has passed away at the age of 34. Contract splitting is rampant in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Niger Delta Affairs Minister Godswill Akpabio, said on Monday. According to him, the management of the agency indulges in splitting contracts to outwit the minister and evade approval. Speaking before the House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta in Abuja, the minister alleged that the agency spent “over N4.2 billion in a day in tranches of N49 million.” The committee is probing how N40 billion was spent by the Interim Management Committee (IMC).
