Taking to social media, some Nigerian man in Lagos state, lamented about their experience at the police cell. According to them, they were arrested for flouting the 10pm curfew put in place by the Federal government to curb the spread of  COVID-19  in the state. According to the men, there was heavy traffic in Lagos on Wednesday, so they couldn’t beat the curfew hour. The police officers enforcing the traffic in Ikeja arrested them and threw them in a crowded cell where none of the COVID-19 protocols such as social distancing was observed. Twitter user, Osinaike Joseph, who shared videos from the cell, alleged that the police officers refused to release some of them who were visibly sick. They accused the police of demanding bribe from them before their release. At least 50 people have been killed and over 2500 after a massive explosion erupted in Beirut port area, damaging buildings and vehicles in Lebanon The explosion happened at around 6pm local time at the city's port, where warehouses are believed to contain explosive materials.    Dramatic footage posted on social media shows smoke billowing from a building in the port area before an enormous fireball explodes into the sky, sending a vast shockwave across the city that was heard and felt as far away as Cyprus - more than 200km (180 miles) away. The afternoon explosion destroyed several vehicles and buildings including the house of former PM Saad Hariri, who has been confirmed safe by his party.    Beirut's Hotel Dieu Hospital is said to have admitted more than 500 wounded patients and no longer receiving more, while Lebanon's Red Cross confirmed many others were still trapped in their homes. Woman robbed of her baby and thrown into septic tank is rescued after three days

  A woman has been rescued from a septic tank three days after a man who stole her baby from her threw her in there.   The nursing mother, named Mrs Chizoba Eke was pulled alive but injured from the septic tank of an incomplete building located in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State.   Her attacker, simply identified as Chinedu was apprehended when he tried to traffic her six months old baby through Omerelu, Rivers border with Imo State.   Mrs Eke, the nursing mother was kidnapped from her home with her baby on August 17, 2020, and forced into a septic tank after a severe assault by her abductor.   The husband of the victim, Mr Eke, also alleged that Chinedu had attempted to rape his wife when she was pregnant with the newborn.   Mr Eke said, “I was invited by the police to come and identify our baby, having lodged a complaint when both my wife and baby went missing.   Police officers are on the lookout for anyone with information about a set of goats that 'hijacked a police car in broad daylight'.   In the words of the Isle of White, UK police officers, they are in the hunt for some badly behaved 'kids' who damaged their vehicle and are appealing for witnesses.   According to police, the goats were pictured standing on top the police vehicle near Newport on Wednesday afternoon August 19, as Police had been called to the area after an unexploded bomb from World War II was discovered.    The police called the Royal Navy Explosives Team, travelled from Portsmouth to help destroy the unexploded bomb.     The officers, after detonating the bomb, then returned to their car only to find their car damaged by the 'hooligans'.     The police are now asking if anyone can recognize the goats from the picture.    A police statement published on the police department's official Facebook page said: ‘In a...

UK high commission to replace expired visa for free for Nigerians as it restarts operations

  The British High Commission in Nigeria has announced that it has reopened its visa application centres across the country and that any individual whose 30-day visa to travel to the UK for work, study or visitation has expired can request a replacement free of charge.   The UK High Commission, announcing the move today, Thursday, August 20, said the free visa replacement will be open until December 2020 and cover individuals who will be travelling to the UK to work, study or join their families.   In a statement by the Commission on titled, ‘Update on VAC Services From The BHC Nigeria’ posted on its verified Twitter handle, @UKinNigeria the commission said; “As a result of the disruptions to travel caused by COVID-19, we are experiencing high demand for replacement vignettes for 30-day visas to travel to the UK for work, study or to join the family. “If an individual’s 30-day visa to travel to the UK for work, study or to join family has expired, or is about to expire, t...

  The father of a patient slapped and stabbed the medical doctor who was in charge of his child's case, it has been claimed.   A medical doctor narrated the story on Twitter as he discussed the "hazards" medical doctors are exposed to.   He wrote: "The kind of hazards Drs are exposed to is staggering! In Nigeria, added to the well-known hazards, we have assaults from patient relatives added! A female Dr was slapped and stabbed with a syringe (of unknown origin) in our Children's Emergency by the patient's father.
