 Rape suspect caught on CCTV in Delta after denying the act and threatening to sue his victim and her family


A man who denied raping an 11-year-old girl and threatened to arrest her and her family members was exposed by CCTV footage.

 

The 30-year-old man allegedly assaulted the 11-year-old girl last Wednesday, August 13, when she went to use a convenience room. She emerged minutes later crying and saying she had been abused by the suspect.

 

However, the suspect, simply identified as Jomaph, denied the charges and threatened to take legal steps.

 

But a CCTV camera installed by a neighbour for business reportedly exposed him to the act, The Nation reports.

 

Police spokeswoman Onome Onowakpoyeya confirmed the incident on Tuesday, August 18, noting that she was yet to get an official report on the incident.

 

“The incident happened,” she said, adding, “They said, initially, the man denied, until they brought the CCTV footage and he owned up.”

Police arrest men for violating COVID-19 curfew, then lock him up in a crowded cell

Taking to social media, some Nigerian man in Lagos state, lamented about their experience at the police cell. According to them, they were arrested for flouting the 10pm curfew put in place by the Federal government to curb the spread of  COVID-19  in the state. According to the men, there was heavy traffic in Lagos on Wednesday, so they couldn’t beat the curfew hour. The police officers enforcing the traffic in Ikeja arrested them and threw them in a crowded cell where none of the COVID-19 protocols such as social distancing was observed. Twitter user, Osinaike Joseph, who shared videos from the cell, alleged that the police officers refused to release some of them who were visibly sick. They accused the police of demanding bribe from them before their release.   Veteran Yoruba actress Grace Oyin-Adejobi, popularly known as Iya Osogbo, will officially retire from acting when she clocks 90 on Sunday, August 23. Iya Osogbo is the widow of the late Yoruba actor Oyin Adejobi who died in 2000. During an appearance on a radio magazine programme on Space 90.1FM, Parrot Extra Hour on Radio, anchored by Olayinka Agboola in Ibadan, Oyo State, Iya Osogbo said she started her acting career some 67 years ago. A federal high court in Abuja has issued a warrant for the arrest of the immediate past Clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Omolori.   This is coming after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed an application before the court, alleging that the respondent had ignored its invitation for him to report to its office following a petition filed against him.    The anti-graft agency which said it is investigating the diversion of 14 Toyota Hilux vehicles and 13 Peugeot 508 valued at over N400 million, disclosed that it has invited the Secretary of the National Assembly Commission, Adamu Fika, Mr Oluseye Ajakaye and others to its office.   The EFCC noted that the invitees made revelations indicting Mr Omolori who refused to honor its invitation on two occassions.    Justice Suleman Belgore who listened to EFCC's counsel S.N. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission NIDCOM, has appealed to the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC to pay the allowances, tuition, and other incentives of students on its scholarship scheme in the United Kingdom as most of them have turned to beggars on the streets of the UK.   During the recent National Assembly probe of the NDDC, it was revealed that Nigerian students awarded scholarships to some universities in the United Kingdom, have been abandoned by the commission as they have not received a dime in allowance or school fees from the commission.
