Petrol to sell at N150 per litre as marketers seek price hike

Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) petrol may sell for N150 per litre in August as marketers are pushing for an upward review.

EyewitnessMedia had reported that Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA ) last month announced increase of the product to a band of N140.80 to N143.80 per litre.

Prior to the July 1 hike, the agency had on May 1, approved price band of N121.50 to N123.50 per litre for the product.

However a source who spoke to The Nation said marketers are seeking a further increase in the price of PMS due to the soaring price of crude oil in the international market. It was further learnt that Brent Crude which sold for $43.24 per barrel in July, is currently selling for $44.03 per barrel.

She said: “We are now in the meeting to fix a new petrol price for the month of August.

“We are asking the PPPRA to approve N150 per litre because the prices of crude oil have increased and there is no subsidy on the product.

“You will hear the announcement of the new price around four o’clock today (Tuesday ).”

Gunmen abduct Ex-commissioner’s children and NSCDC officer in Zamfara

  Several unknown gunmen have abducted the two sons of   Bello Dankande, a former Zamfara commissioner alongside an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).    The incident, which took place at Dankande’s residence in Gamji, Bakura local government area of the state on Tuesday August 18, left one person dead and a woman with injuries.    Spokesperson of Zamfara state police command, Muhammad Shehu who confirmed the incident said police officers are already on the trail of the kidnappers.    He said;  “At about 4:30am, a large number of armed men invaded the house and kidnapped two of his children and two others including an NSCDC officer on guard duty at the house. “One person was shot dead, while a woman was wounded in the process. “The Command further assures the former commissioner and indeed all the people of the state that it would do everything possible to get the abductees released and back ...

Two airplanes collide at Lagos airport

A wing tip accident was witnessed at the cargo area of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos on Wednesday July 29.    The accident occurred when a Middle East Airlines plane was coming to park on the apron while a Turkish Airlines aircraft was taxiing out.   Passengers on the Turkish Airlines flight were made to disembark and it was further learnt that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) have been notified and would issue a statement on the incident.

A Nigerian doctor, Urey, who just passed out from National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, on Thursday, July 16th, has died. According to report, Urey who was a 2019 Batch B stream 2 corper, was involved in a fatal accident at Onne, Rivers state, on her way returning back home. Reports have it that the trailer lost control which led to the crash with her vehicle. Urey was a graduate of Imo state University, department of Optometry. 21-year-old man arrested for allegedly sodomizing underaged boys in Anambra

Anambra Police arrested a twenty-one-year-old named Obimeze Maduabuchi Augustine,  of Ofianta village, Nsugbe, in Anambra East Local Government Area of the state for allegedly having carnal knowledge of two small boys, aged five and seven respectively. A statement from the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Haruna Mohammed, said Obimese was arrested by detectives attached to B' Division, Akwa, following a tip-off. Gal Pissetzky, the legal representative of suspected Internet fraudster, Ramon Abass, aka Hushpuppi, has said the suspect is on his way to California, United States of America, for trial. He told The PUNCH on Wednesday night that Hushpuppi had not been released as being speculated in some quarters. Pissetzky, a Chicago lawyer, also noted that he was still his lawyer. “He has not been released and I am still his lawyer. He is on his way to California. Not everything you see on court documents is accurate. “Just because the jail record says ‘released’ does not mean he has been released. He is being transferred to California,” he told the PUNCH correspondent on the phone. Hushpuppi is facing trial for alleged Internet fraud.

  Taylor Swift has donated over £23,000 to a teenager who started a GoFundMe appeal so she can go to University.   Vitoria Mario, a Tottenham teenager, wants to become a mathematician.
