I’m still Unilag VC – ‘sacked’ Prof. Ogundipe declares

Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has reacted to news that he has been sacked as the Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, he says his purported removal from office is untrue and illegal.

Ogundipe disclosed this in a statement he issued to newsmen on Wednesday in Lagos.
”The attention of the University of Lagos (Unilag) Management has been drawn to a notice to the general public on the removal of the Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, dated Aug. 12 and signed by Oladejo Azeez, Esq, Registrar and Secretary to council.

”It states that the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, has been removed from office with immediate effect.

”The purported removal is an illegality and cannot stand as it is in clear violation of the University of Lagos Act as amended by the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act, 2003.

”Therefore, members of the University of Lagos community and the general public are advised to disregard the information as contained in the notice.

”Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe remains the Vice-Chancellor of University of Lagos,” he said.

They don’t recycle, they rinse - Tchidi Chikere fires back at follower over groundnut bottles picked from dustbin heap

  Nollywood filmmaker, Tchidi Chikere has been dragged into an exchange with a follower over his comment about bottles used to sell groundnuts in the country.    Chikere, who shared a photo of some unidentified people arranging some used bottles on the floor stated that they are bottles used to sell groundnuts across the country and are picked from the garbage heap.    However, after being accused of "complaining about citizens trying to make ends meet in a legit way," the filmmaker fired back by saying that the bottles picked from dustbin heap were not recycled but rinsed.

A Nigerian doctor, Urey, who just passed out from National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, on Thursday, July 16th, has died. According to report, Urey who was a 2019 Batch B stream 2 corper, was involved in a fatal accident at Onne, Rivers state, on her way returning back home. Reports have it that the trailer lost control which led to the crash with her vehicle. Urey was a graduate of Imo state University, department of Optometry. Urey was said to have ‘struggled’ with medical school and finally got out successfully. Friends and family members have taken to social media to pen tributes to her.

Police arrest former dispatch riders for attempting to snatch vehicle from an Uber driver

Two former dispatch riders identified as Sule Abdulkareem and Celestine Joseph have been arrested by the Lagos state police for attempting to dispossess an Uber driver of his vehicle in Anthony Village area of the state.    They were arrested by SARS operatives at Anthony-Oke area of the state, while looking for a more deserted part of the area to launch an attack on the driver.   The two suspects who both confessed to attempting to rob the driver, claimed they had wanted to use the vehicle as collateral for a loan to start up a business. A gun was also recovered from them.    Abdulkareem said;  “I met Celestine (Joseph) when we were both dispatch riders for an online retail company. No life lost as boat with 10 passengers capsizes in Lagos (photos)

No life was lost after a boat capsized at Marine Police Head-quarter, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi on Tuesday night July 28.   According to a statement released this morning by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, The boat capsized while en route Ikoyi from Ilashe after it t collided with an unidentified substance. A total of 10 persons(9 Adult males and a female) were involved in the incident and were rescued alive by the Marine Police in conjunction with LASEMA Response Team as no life was lost. The names of the victims are as follows Ogungbe Taiwo(Captain of the Boat) Ernest Abode Anjadick Emmanuel Isah Obima Ewere Mashack Bulus Oyefeso Oluwamayo Owoyemi Taiwo Peter Aina Oluwasanmi Lawal Gbolahan and Chinasa Temitope(female) The second boat was recovered from the water ten minutes after the first one which had 7 victims on board and the total number of victims rescued now 17 in number ( 16 Males and 1 female).
