 Final year student of Nasarawa state University dies while attempting to rescue a man who was being electrocuted


A final year student in the Department of Biology Education, Nasarawa State University, lost his life while trying to rescue a trader who was being electrocuted at the GSM market in Keffi, the state capital, on Monday, August 17.

 

According to reports, a mobile phone repairer, Junaudu Shaibu, was about to pick up his tools when he was electrocuted by a nearby high tension wire. Zaidu had tried to rescue Shaibu when he got electrocuted as well.

He has since been buried, according to Islamic injunctions.

 

His family and friends have taken to social media to mourn his passing. May his soul rest in peace, Amen.

Magu Probe: Olukoyede, EFCC Secretary, Suspended

Some officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have received letters of suspension, TheCable understands. Although details of those suspended are yet to be made public,  TheCable  learnt that Olanipekun Olukoyede, secretary to the commission, is among those who received the letters. The development is not unconnected to the ongoing probe of Ibrahim Magu, suspended acting chairman of the EFCC. Magu was arrested on July 6 and whisked to the presidential villa in Abuja, where he appeared before a panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the operations of the EFCC under him. The panel is headed by Ayo Salami, retired president of the appeal court. On July 14, Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), sent a letter to Mohammed Umar, acting EFCC chairman, notifying him of the suspension of 12 directors in the commission. Contract splitting is rampant in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Niger Delta Affairs Minister Godswill Akpabio, said on Monday. According to him, the management of the agency indulges in splitting contracts to outwit the minister and evade approval. Speaking before the House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta in Abuja, the minister alleged that the agency spent “over N4.2 billion in a day in tranches of N49 million.” The committee is probing how N40 billion was spent by the Interim Management Committee (IMC). An angry mob of neighbours tried to lynch a suspected killer in Argentina after the body of a missing 19 year old girl was found buried in his garden.   Beautiful Julieta Abigail del Pino went missing on Friday July 31, in the small town of Berabevu, in northeastern Santa Fe, Argentina.
