Boko Haram releases video of ‘members observing Eid prayer in Niger state’

Some members of the Abubakar Shekau-led faction of Boko Haram in Niger state have been spotted in a viral video observing the Eid Al-Adha prayer in an undisclosed bushy area.

 

Though when the video was made is still unclear, the Eid Al-Adha was however celebrated by Muslim faithful across the globe on July 31. 

 

In the viral video, three of the supposed insurgents sent Eid greetings in Hausa, English, and Fulfulde. One the men was heard saying; 

 

“It is we the Jamahatu Ali Sunna li Dawatul Jihad in the location of Niger State. We want to send our Sallah salutation, first of all to our imam, Abu Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Abubakar Shekau."

 

Bulama Bukarti, an analyst and human rights lawyer who shared the video on Twitter, expressed concern that the insurgents may have killed some military officers and taken possession of their uniforms.

 

He tweeted; 

 

The Shekau-led faction of BH has released its first video exclusively featuring members claiming to be from Niger State. It shows about one hundred persons praying Eid in the heart of a bush before showing three fighters sending Eid greetings in Hausa, English and Fulfulde.

It’s interesting that two of the fighters were respectively wearing Nigerian military & police uniforms. This indicates that they might’ve recently killed security forces and got their uniforms. This is because in their past video, the only speaker from Niger was in mufti.

This video, if genuine, is further evidence that BH has expanded to the northcentral. The dense forest there is a perfect haven for terrorists and if the group is able to consolidate its presence in Niger, it can easily target Abuja as well as to other states like Kwara and Kogi.

I won’t get tired of urging the FG and the Niger State Govt to take this threat seriously. We shouldn’t wait until the situation gets out of control before we start running helter-skelter. We better nip this challenge from the bud before it grows too gigantic to be uprooted.

NJC recommends 22 judges to Buhari for appointment to Supreme Court and others

Some officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have received letters of suspension, TheCable understands. Although details of those suspended are yet to be made public,  TheCable  learnt that Olanipekun Olukoyede, secretary to the commission, is among those who received the letters. The development is not unconnected to the ongoing probe of Ibrahim Magu, suspended acting chairman of the EFCC. Woman robbed of her baby and thrown into septic tank is rescued after three days

  A woman has been rescued from a septic tank three days after a man who stole her baby from her threw her in there.   The nursing mother, named Mrs Chizoba Eke was pulled alive but injured from the septic tank of an incomplete building located in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State.   Her attacker, simply identified as Chinedu was apprehended when he tried to traffic her six months old baby through Omerelu, Rivers border with Imo State.   Mrs Eke, the nursing mother was kidnapped from her home with her baby on August 17, 2020, and forced into a septic tank after a severe assault by her abductor.   The husband of the victim, Mr Eke, also alleged that Chinedu had attempted to rape his wife when she was pregnant with the newborn.   Mr Eke said, “I was invited by the police to come and identify our baby, having lodged a complaint when both my wife and baby went missing. A former Kaduna Central district Senator, Shehu Sani has strongly condemned the killing of aid workers by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State. DAILY POST reported that the aid workers were kidnapped by Boko Haram Terrorists on June 20th and were executed on Wednesday. In a video released by the armed group while executing the humanitarian workers, the terrorists said they executed the abducted aid workers living in their custody for a month in Borno state, having exhausted the days given for the ransom. Reacting, Shehu Sani described the execution as ‘sad and tragic.’ He, therefore, called for the protection of all aid workers in the country. “The execution of the five aid workers by the insurgents is sad and tragic.
