Abuja concert: Lagos state police arraign Naira Marley in court

Lagos state police command today August 6, arraigned singer, Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley, before the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Oshodi for flouting the presidential ban on interstate travel during the lockdown period.

 

Recall that in June this year, Naira Marley, during the COVID-19 lockdown, flew to Abuja, the nation's capital, for a drive-through concert that took place at the Jabi Lake Mall. The concert caused a lot of controversies after videos from it showed guests flouting all COVID-19 protocols. Asides, sealing the mall up, the federal government shut down the operations of the airline that flew the singer and his crew to Abuja for the concert.

 

Naira Marley reported himself to the police command this morning following an invitation and he was then taken to court.

 

In April, Naira Marley also had a run-in with the Lagos state government after he attended the birthday party of actress Funke Akindele's husband at their home in Amen Estate. He was arraigned in court alongside a former governorship candidate in the state, Babatunde Gbadamosi. The state government dropped the charges against them after they apologized.

Two confirmed dead and many properties razed as gas explosion rocks Ajao estate in Lagos (photos/video)

Two persons have been confirmed dead in a gas explosion that rocked Afariogun Street in the Ajao area of Lagos State this evening Tuesday, July 28.   The explosion started from a shop used in refilling gas cylinders. Nine shops were razed in the explosion and a number of cars were also burnt.   According to reports, the accident happened after a 62-year-old woman, who runs a cooking gas shop and her 32-year-old daughter were called back to their shop to attend to a “regular customer” who came to fill a gas cylinder. The woman returned and successfully attended to the customer. However, the sad incident happened when the customer tried putting the gas cylinder into a waiting tricycle, it fell and exploded.   The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident, said the fire had been extinguished and that the bodies of the deceased persons have been evacuated from the scen...

FG reciprocates, bans EU flights from entering Nigeria

  The federal government says it would also be banning flights from European nations just as it has banned flights from Nigeria into their country.   As part of measures to contain the spread of the Coronavirus in its region, the European Union in June this year released a statement listing some countries that are banned from flying into any of the countries in the region, and Nigeria was included.   At the daily briefing of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 on Thursday, August 20, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, announced that the Federal government will be reciprocating the EU's decision.
