Senator Orji Uzor Kalu received a rousing welcome when he returned to Abia state on Monday, July 27, months after he was released from prison.

Recall that in December 2019, the former Abia state governor was sentenced to 12 years in prison after he was convicted for N7.1bn fraud alongside his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited, and a former Director of Finance during his tenure, Ugo Udeogu.

The Supreme court on May 8, 2020, then nullified Kalu and Udeogo's conviction on grounds that the presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, lacked the jurisdiction to have presided over their case. He was released from Kuje prison on June 3, 2020.

On Monday, July 27, he made a triumphant return to the state and was received by his teeming supporters. See more photos below

A Nigerian man has shared his experience with a lady who stopped on the road to interrogate him after she saw him walking around with his disgruntled niece. Gunmen abduct Ex-commissioner’s children and NSCDC officer in Zamfara

Several unknown gunmen have abducted the two sons of Bello Dankande, a former Zamfara commissioner alongside an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The incident, which took place at Dankande’s residence in Gamji, Bakura local government area of the state on Tuesday August 18, left one person dead and a woman with injuries. Spokesperson of Zamfara state police command, Muhammad Shehu who confirmed the incident said police officers are already on the trail of the kidnappers. Two airplanes collide at Lagos airport

A wing tip accident was witnessed at the cargo area of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos on Wednesday July 29. The accident occurred when a Middle East Airlines plane was coming to park on the apron while a Turkish Airlines aircraft was taxiing out. 21-year-old man arrested for allegedly sodomizing underaged boys in Anambra

Anambra Police arrested a twenty-one-year-old named Obimeze Maduabuchi Augustine, of Ofianta village, Nsugbe, in Anambra East Local Government Area of the state for allegedly having carnal knowledge of two small boys, aged five and seven respectively. A statement from the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Haruna Mohammed, said Obimese was arrested by detectives attached to B' Division, Akwa, following a tip-off. According to the statement, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime and blamed his actions on peer group Haruna said the state commissioner of police, CP John B. Abang, had ordered the transfer of the case to the state criminal investigation department (CID) for discreet investigations after which the suspect would be charged to court.

Gal Pissetzky, the legal representative of suspected Internet fraudster, Ramon Abass, aka Hushpuppi, has said the suspect is on his way to California, United States of America, for trial. He told The PUNCH on Wednesday night that Hushpuppi had not been released as being speculated in some quarters. Pissetzky, a Chicago lawyer, also noted that he was still his lawyer. “He has not been released and I am still his lawyer. He is on his way to California.
