Ahead of the planned partial closure of the third mainland bridge beginning from this Friday, July 24,

the Lagos state Commissioner for Transportation, Frederic Oladeinde has explained why the maintenance works for the bridge weren’t carried out during the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In an interview with TVC this morning July 20, Oladeinde said

”When we had COVID, nobody understood it and also remember that the people we were sending to fix the road are also human beings so we needed to understand the evolution of COVID and how we would then structure the guidelines around it.
So it was important to keep everybody away because our number one priority is to make sure everybody is safe and that we do not lose anybody.
And secondly, the lockdown period was only a month and this maintenance is about six months so irrespective we would have still gone pass the lockdown and the people would have still been affected”

Oladeinde said efforts are currently being made to make alternative routes motorable. The 11km bridge which links the mainland and the Island, will be partially closed for repairs beginning from July 24 till sometime in January.

A Nigerian man has shared his experience with a lady who stopped on the road to interrogate him after she saw him walking around with his disgruntled niece. 21-year-old man arrested for allegedly sodomizing underaged boys in Anambra

Anambra Police arrested a twenty-one-year-old named Obimeze Maduabuchi Augustine, of Ofianta village, Nsugbe, in Anambra East Local Government Area of the state for allegedly having carnal knowledge of two small boys, aged five and seven respectively. A statement from the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Haruna Mohammed, said Obimese was arrested by detectives attached to B' Division, Akwa, following a tip-off. According to the statement, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime and blamed his actions on peer group Haruna said the state commissioner of police, CP John B. Abang, had ordered the transfer of the case to the state criminal investigation department (CID) for discreet investigations after which the suspect would be charged to court.

Gunmen abduct Ex-commissioner’s children and NSCDC officer in Zamfara

Several unknown gunmen have abducted the two sons of Bello Dankande, a former Zamfara commissioner alongside an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The incident, which took place at Dankande’s residence in Gamji, Bakura local government area of the state on Tuesday August 18, left one person dead and a woman with injuries. Two young boys burnt to death over alleged phone theft in Kenya
