Breaking: Oyo State Sets To Begin Arrest Of People Without Face Masks

It’s bad news for those moving about without face masks as the Oyo State government will soon begin the arrest and prosecution of defaulters.

This was disclosed Wednesday by the State Coordinator, Emergency Operation Centre, Dr. Taiwo Ladipo, during a visit to Bodija Market in Ibadan.

Ladipo spoke during the commencement of the persuasive enforcement approach for the use of face masks to further curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

Represented at the occasion by Mrs. Oladipo Adekunbi, Ladipo said that the persuasive enforcement would be on for the next one month after which violators would be made to pay fine or be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

He said that the team was in the market to carry out the persuasive enforcement in order to ensure that people took preventive measures against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The enforcement team, made up of COVID-19 risk managers, environmental health officers, and security agencies, moved round the market, sensitizing traders and enforcing the wearing of face masks, maintaining social distancing, and adhering to other preventive measures.

Present at the event were the state environmental officers and men of the state police command.

Magu Probe: Olukoyede, EFCC Secretary, Suspended

Some officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have received letters of suspension, TheCable understands. Although details of those suspended are yet to be made public,  TheCable  learnt that Olanipekun Olukoyede, secretary to the commission, is among those who received the letters. The development is not unconnected to the ongoing probe of Ibrahim Magu, suspended acting chairman of the EFCC. Magu was arrested on July 6 and whisked to the presidential villa in Abuja, where he appeared before a panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the operations of the EFCC under him. The panel is headed by Ayo Salami, retired president of the appeal court. Contract splitting is rampant in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Niger Delta Affairs Minister Godswill Akpabio, said on Monday. According to him, the management of the agency indulges in splitting contracts to outwit the minister and evade approval. Speaking before the House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta in Abuja, the minister alleged that the agency spent “over N4.2 billion in a day in tranches of N49 million.” The committee is probing how N40 billion was spent by the Interim Management Committee (IMC).
